Modernista
For over 16 years, Modernista has been a synonym for avant-garde Czech design and applied arts. The company was founded in 1999, originally as an online store with restored original furniture pieces from the 1930's. The company soon gained an excellent reputation and is now regularly featured in Czech and international design and housing magazines. The selection offered in the Modernista design shop is varied and wide with Czech Cubist ceramics (reproductions from their Cubist Collection), Modernist furniture, design lighting, jewelry, china, and glass, contemporary design and design books. Modernista also still offers resored originals from the Art Deco, Bauhaus, and Czech Cubism movements. Modernista's flagship store is at the Vinohradský Pavilon, focusing exclusively on furniture and featuring gorgeous replicas of furniture from Jindřich Halabala, Pavel Janák, Adolf Loos and others. Look for Modernista also at Prague's famous Municipal House (focusing on Cubist ceramics, applied arts, jewelry and contemporary design), and at the Galerie Rudolfinum (focusing primarily on books about design, applied arts and their creators). Modernista is an interesting place for all those with a love for the strict lines of avant-garde design and applied arts.
